Summer is over, at least that is how I always feel once fair and
rodeo have rolled by. I don't need to tell any of you about the
heat, we've all been experiencing it first-hand. I hope to see
more of you out-and-about with the cooler temperatures, we have
new merchandise arriving every day in the store. Stop to
say hello soon!
Sincerely,
Sherry Robinson

Tomato & Veggy Issues
The biggest problem we've dealt with is the miss-packaging of the Sweet Slice Cucumber seed. A big thanks goes out to those of you reporting the problem to me. My supplier actually
labeled Ambrosia Cantaloupe as the cucumber. We are very sorry for this, please call to have your name put on our list if you ended up with these plants.
Blossom end rot on tomatoes is also very prevalent this season. I feel the tomato plants grew very fast without sending down an adequate root system. When the hot weather came, the plant could not keep all the foliage growth sustained and the plant dried out, causing a drop in the calcium levels. The result shows on the fruit with a rotted bottom where the blossom set. The problem corrects itself when erratic watering habits even out (periods of too dry followed by periods of too wet).
Spider mite populations have exploded and plants untreated (or treated with products not labeled for mites) are "whitish" in color. The mites suck the leaves dry and leave a "web" on the underneath side of the plant. If the plant is too far gone, remove is from the garden, or use High Yield Lawn, Garden, & Pet Spray to kill the mites.
