Should I Reseed My Lawn?
This is a good time to consider this option for a lawn that has become sparse, is full of weeds, or just isn't the type of lawn grass you envision surrounding your home.
Are you wanting a lush, weed-free cool season lawn such as fescue? This is the #1 selection for a "green" lawn in our area. A fescue lawn will require 1" of water per week to maintain. Balanced treatments of fertilizers and weed killers will also be required for optimum health. I recommend the GardenWise blend of fescue. It is 4 varieties of the top rated fescue seeds, no cheap filler grass seed!
There are 2 methods of planting a lawn. the first involves completely turning the soil with a rototiller, leveling, and then planting the required seed. The second method is less time consuming but the lawn area should be level and not too compacted. For this method the area is completely cleaned up, sprayed with glysolate (High Yield KillzAll) and the seed planted.
If a cool season lawn already exists but is just not as lush as you would like, overseeding might be a good option. The overseeding is usually done at 10% - 50% rate depending on the amount of existing grass in the lawn.
After the seed is planted, consistant moisture is required for the seed to germinate and establish. Germination usually takes 7-10 days. |
